ORIGINALLY SCHEDULED FOR NOVEMBER 8, 2020
In two concerts, Daniel Barenboim and the Staatskapelle Berlin offer a journey to the heart of the sparkling massif of Beethoven's symphonies.
Beethoven's Symphony No. 6 was premiered on a historic evening. On December 22, 1808, the Fifth Symphony was also performed for the first time at the Teater an der Wien in Vienna. Curiously, the Pastoral was not a resounding success. The second part, the "Scene by the Stream," was deemed languid. These five nature scenes (including the "Joyful Peasants' Gathering," the impressive "Thunderstorm," and the "Shepherds' Song" that runs through the variation finale) have, however, lost none of their impact two centuries later. Four years later, Beethoven completed his new symphony. A Seventh Symphony that Wagner would later describe as an "apotheosis of dance." While its final movement is indeed irresistibly lively, the heart of the work lies in the moving Allegretto
