Recognized as one of the most fascinating pianists of our time, Ivo Pogorelich has distinguished himself through his bold interpretations and striking virtuosity. First brought to public attention during the 1980 Chopin Competition, he has continued an international career marked by cult-status recordings and a strong commitment to supporting young talent.

Ivo Pogorelich is widely recognized as one of the most original and compelling pianists of our time. Known for his unorthodox interpretations and technical brilliance, he rose to international fame after his controversial elimination from the 1980 Chopin Competition — prompting Martha Argerich to call him a “genius” and resign from the jury in protest. Born in Belgrade in 1958, Pogorelich trained at the Moscow Conservatory and refined his style under the guidance of Alisa Kezeradze. His acclaimed recordings for Deutsche Grammophon have earned cult status, and he continues to perform globally. A passionate supporter of young musicians, he founded multiple festivals and competitions, and was named UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador in 1988.
