Janne Saksala

Role
Double bass player
Country
Finland
"I never really wanted to become an orchestral musician, but the repertoire for double bass is very limited if you don't play in an orchestra. You have no contact with the great composers; you only play Dittersdorf and Koussevitzky. In the long run, that's not enough. Now I'm delighted to be an orchestral musician."
In 1981 he began his double bass studies at his native music school in Helsinki, and then continued his studies at the Hochschule der Künste in Berlin.
Janne Saksala is not only a passionate musician, but also a formidable soloist, chamber musician, and renowned professor at leading musical institutions. Among his many projects, he organizes an annual master class at the Carl Flesh Academy in Baden-Baden. He was a guest professor at the Hanns Eisler Music School in Berlin for several years.
He regularly works with contemporary composers and has premiered numerous new works. He was also a member of the Berlin Philharmonic Jazz Group until 2016. He is currently Konzertmeister of the Berliner Philharmoniker.
