Born in Buenos Aires, Martha Argerich was introduced to the piano at the age of five with Vincenzo Scaramuzza. Considered a child prodigy, she gave her first concerts at a very young age. In 1955, she moved to Europe to study with renowned masters such as Seidlhofer, Gulda, Magaloff, Madame Lipatti, and Stefan Askenase. Winner of the Bolzano and Geneva competitions in 1957, she gained international recognition in 1965 by winning the prestigious Chopin Competition in Warsaw, revealing an exceptional musical personality. Celebrated for her incandescent playing, she has built an international career as both a soloist and chamber musician. Deeply committed to chamber music, she regularly performs with Daniel Barenboim, Mischa Maisky, and Gidon Kremer. Dedicated to supporting young artists, she has founded several festivals, notably in Lugano and Japan. Her impressive discography has received numerous awards, including several Grammy Awards, and her career has been honoured by many countries and prestigious institutions around the world.
